SHENZHEN — Four days after winning URKL's first-ever fight without a head, Matador is whole again. EngineAI confirmed on Monday that the T800's head unit — torn off by White Eagle's high kick in the final round of the URKL opening gala on July 16 — has been reattached, and that the robot is cleared to enter the league's summer qualifiers.

The headless victory had become the defining image of opening night: Matador beat White Eagle 3–2 over five five-minute rounds at the Nanshan Culture and Sports Center, finishing the fight — and winning it — after losing its head, a sequence half the arena initially misread.

Four days in the repair bay

According to EngineAI, the head unit was recovered intact from the cage floor after the gala, but its neck connector and sensor housing needed a full rebuild. Technicians completed the reattachment over the weekend, and the robot passed its post-repair movement and vision checks on Sunday evening.

No other structural damage was reported from the five-round fight — a notable outcome given that White Eagle landed the kick that produced the most-shared robot combat clip in history.

Cleared for the qualifiers

Matador is entered in URKL's inaugural-season qualifiers, which begin this summer at Shenzhen's Longgang FRL Robot Club ahead of autumn knockout rounds and a grand final at the end of 2026. Whether the headless winner becomes one of the 32 teams' headline acts is now the question hanging over the season — our next URKL event tracker has the confirmed dates as they land.

What's next

URKL has not yet announced Matador's first qualifier opponent. The full tournament bracket and fight card are expected once the qualifiers open — we will update this story when they do.
