Matador won the first fight in URKL history — and lost its head doing it.

The dark-armored robot beat White Eagle 3–2 over five five-minute rounds at the URKL opening night on July 16, 2026, at the Nanshan Culture and Sports Center in Shenzhen, Xinhua reported. Both machines are EngineAI T800 full-size humanoids; the 1v1 exhibition opened the league's first season in front of the 32 qualified teams and over a hundred media outlets.

How the five rounds unfolded

White Eagle scored the first point of the night with a kick in round one, then fell from its own momentum — and got back up on its own within seconds, drawing gasps from the crowd. Matador took the round, helped by taunt points awarded for posing at its opponent. Under event rules, effective strikes score one point, knockdowns three, and taunting gestures also earn points.

Matador's accurate combinations earned it two of the next three rounds. White Eagle, a high-kick specialist, took round three by 37 points to 10, Sina's on-site report said.

The kick that took Matador's head off

In the final round, White Eagle landed a flying kick that rocked Matador's head, then a second that knocked it clean off. The dark robot kept fighting with its head dangling by cables, throwing punches and kicks until the bell. Organizers later cited the moment as proof of the T800's structural durability and redundancy.

White Eagle won the round overwhelmingly, but Matador kept the match 3–2 on accumulated round wins. Matador was carried off; White Eagle, the loser, was the last robot standing in the golden rain — which is why many viewers left believing the white machine had won.
